The Faculté de médecine vétérinaire (FMV) of the Université de Montréal is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant Professor position in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care to join the dynamic multidisciplinary team in his Department of Clinical Sciences (emergency and critical care, internal medicine, interventional radiology, cardiology, neurology, anesthesiology, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, dentistry, dermatology, ophthalmology, theriogenology). The FMV is located in Saint-Hyacinthe, the agricultural capital of Quebec, with 57 000 inhabitants. The FMV is located 60 km (37 miles) from Montreal, a vibrant city with an international airport and excellent flight connections to Europe, the USA, and South America. The FMV is also within easy reach of the beautiful, historic Quebec City and Ottawa, the capital of Canada. The FMV is located off campus but maintains strong collaborative ties to other faculties at the Université de Montréal and other universities within the province. The successful candidate will join a dynamic emergency team composed of 2 criticalists, 3 emergency veterinarians, 3 specialized interns, 13 animal health technicians and several graduate students (interns, master’s and doctoral students). A residency program is also active. The CHUV emergency service provides emergency assessment and care for seriously injured or ill pets 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The emergency service collaborates with a large team of specialists in anesthesiology, cardiology, surgery, dermatology, internal medicine, zoological medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, and radiology.

The candidates will work in a comprehensive academic veterinary medical center with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including a room dedicated to exotics digital radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasonography, 320-slice CT, 1.5 Tesla MRI, C-arm fluoroscopy in a brand-new Interventional Radiology suite, mechanical ventilation, high-flow oxygen therapy devices, hemodialysis/hemoperfusion, and a world-renowned blood bank.

As a professor, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the excellence of the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire…

…through your teaching to students and your research activities, enhancing the reputation of your discipline and playing an active role in the overall operations of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

  • Participate in the teaching of emergency and critical care and training to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as the continuing education of veterinarians;
  • Participate in clinical teaching of the emergency and critical care service to DMV students and graduate students (including interns and residents);
  • Develop research activities in emergency and critical care. The service has a strong clinical research program, and several opportunities for collaboration exist for news professors;
  • Contribute to outreach activities within the field (publications, conferences, and others);
  • Contribute to the overall operations of the University.

Additionally:

  • Participate to emergency duties established by the Centre hospitalier universitaire vétérinaire (CHUV).

 

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent;
  • Have successfully completed a residency in Emergency and Critical Care and be a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) or the European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ECVECC);
  • Applications from board-eligible individuals, as well as residents in the process of graduation will also be considered;
  • Demonstrate interest and aptitude for teaching, research and clinical activity;
  • M.Sc. or equivalent research experience;
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain a license to practice veterinary medicine in the province of Quebec (Canada) issued by the Ordre des médecins vétérinaires du Québec;
  • An adequate knowledge of the French written and spoken language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required, in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. An institutional learning support program is offered to all professors wishing to learn French or improve their communication skills.
