The Academy of Veterinary Emergency Critical Care Technicians and Nurses (AVECCTN) was developed to advance clinical skills and knowledge of nurses and technicians working within emergency and critical care. Nurses and technicians who successfully meet the credential requirements and pass the AVECCTN examination are designated as Veterinary Technician Specialists (Emergency & Critical Care). Despite being founded in North America, nurses and technicians working outside of North America are eligible to work toward this qualification with a number of individuals working in Europe having successfully obtained this qualification. Please see their website for further information.

The British Association of Critical Care nurses have championed the creation of the first Veterinary nursing region within what was until 2021 an exclusively human centred organisation. The Veterinary Critical Care Nurses (VCCN) commitee is managed by Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs) who are offering a unique opportunity to collaborate within the human critical care nursing field. The membership offers free study events, discounts for conference and educational resources that have never been available to Veterinary nurses until now.  At only £30 a year (approx 35) it's a must have for the future of ECC nursing. Please see their website for further information.
