DESCRIPTION DU POSTE

Un poste de premier assistant (H/F/X), à temps plein, indivisible, dans le domaine de la chirurgie et des soins intensifs des ruminants, rattaché au Département Clinique des Animaux de Production (DCP), est à pourvoir. La clinique des ruminants représente un endroit privilégié pour un enseignement proche des étudiant·e·s mais aussi du terrain. Elle est ouverte en permanence, 24H/24. La clinique des cas individuels est la base de la médecine des ruminants et ouvre la porte aux autres domaines, tels que, par exemple, la médecine de troupeau. Elle est aussi un centre de cas référés à forte orientation chirurgicale, permettant aux étudiant·e·s d’acquérir la démarche clinique indispensable à la résolution de cas complexes. Il contribue au rayonnement du DCP et constitue l’un des piliers de la formation des résident·e·s pour le collège européen en gestion de la santé bovine (ECBHM). La personne occupant ce poste aura la charge, en collaboration avec les autres enseignant·e·s, d’organiser et prester les activités cliniques. Pour ce poste, la gestion des gardes (rôle de garde avec les autres cliniciens) au niveau de la clinique et le rôle de back-up des assistant·e·s juniors sont des axes forts. Il/elle aura aussi à cœur de développer le rayonnement du département auprès de la Faculté de Médecine vétérinaire, l’Université de Liège, la profession vétérinaire, les étudiant·e·s, et le monde de l’élevage des ruminants.

Your job
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University invites applications for a temporary part-time faculty position in the Section of Emergency and Intensive Care Medicine of Companion Animal (EICM). The section is comprised of an emergency service (ES) and intensive care unit (ICU). You will join two board-certified emergency and critical care (ECC) faculty members. The ECC section runs its own residency programme and contributes to those of other specialties.
In this role you will primarily contribute to the educational and patient care activities of the section. Clinical duties will primarily constitute of senior supervision and participation in the primary care of critically ill patients in the 8-cage intensive care unit. The ICU is closed style with all specialty services contributing to patient care through teamwork. Contributions to the emergency service (ES) are  appreciated. Both the ES and ICU are staffed 24 hours a day with licensed veterinary technicians with a mission for excellence in patient care. The ECC team is supported by an ES manager, highly motivated emergency vets (~15 including ECC
interns), and ECC residents and residents from different specialties rotating through the service.

Emergency doctors treat companion emergency patients (>95% focus on dogs and cats). They work directly with or have access to an ECC resident or criticalist 24 hours a day- 7 days a week as well as clinicians on call from all specialty services in the hospital.
Emergency doctors have clinical case-related teaching responsibilities for 4th year students and are encouraged to participate in didactic teaching (rounds, lectures).
Shifts cover day hours and/or evening hours (no overnights). Some weekends and holidays are required. The exact schedule and preferred shifts are negotiated amongst the ER doctor team.
VISA support is available. Doctors from non-AVMA accredited schools do NOT need to have
ECFVG or similar certification to apply for this position.
