The University of Glasgow’s School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine is seeking to
recruit a dynamic and motivated clinician to help develop our Emergency and Critical Care service.
We welcome applications from candidates who hold an ECVECC/ACVECC diploma (or related discipline
e.g. ECVIM/ACVIM) or have completed an approved residency training programme. In addition to clinical
activities, the post offers a significant element of ‘off clinics’ time for research and scholarship. The role will
also involve the delivery of clinical teaching to undergraduates, interns and residents.
The successful candidate will be joining a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team within our award-
winning state-of-the-art Small Animal Hospital. The hospital is based on the beautiful Garscube estate, 10
minutes’ drive from the vibrant “West End” of Glasgow and less than one hour from Loch Lomond. Our
facilities include on-site 1.5T MRI, CT, C-arm fluoroscopy, a range of Olympus and KarlStorz endoscopes,
a linear accelerator and radio-iodine unit. We have a dedicated well-equipped ICU with advanced
respiratory support (HFNO and ICU ventilator) and CRRT capabilities, and an excellent in-house laboratory.
Our ‘One Hospital’ team ethos ensures exceptional clinical care can be delivered to our patients, and
supports the continual professional development of our vets, nurses and support staff. The ability to work

The UCD Veterinary Hospital has state of the art equipment including CT, MRI, ultrasound, interventional radiology, full endoscopy and arthroscopy, laser, a radioactive iodine unit and fully equipped surgical and intensive care suites. Ancillary support includes rehabilitation and physiotherapy. The Small Animal Clinical
Studies Section currently has capacity for 13 Clinical Academics Clinicians including four surgery, six internal medicine, two emergency and critical care and one oncology specialist. These staff are supported by 10 interns
(rotating and discipline specific), 9 residents and a full team of ancillary staff.
Salary: 95 Lecturer/Asst Professor Above The Bar €64,112- €101,524 per annum.
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines

Emergency doctors treat companion emergency patients (>95% focus on dogs and cats). They work directly with or have access to an ECC resident or criticalist 24 hours a day- 7 days a week as well as clinicians on call from all specialty services in the hospital.
Emergency doctors have clinical case-related teaching responsibilities for 4th year students and are encouraged to participate in didactic teaching (rounds, lectures).
Shifts cover day hours and/or evening hours (no overnights). Some weekends and holidays are required. The exact schedule and preferred shifts are negotiated amongst the ER doctor team.
VISA support is available. Doctors from non-AVMA accredited schools do NOT need to have
ECFVG or similar certification to apply for this position.
