History

The European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, ECVECC, was founded in 2014 following approval by the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS). The College's formation was supported  by the European Society of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, EVECCS, an organisation established in 2001 to represent all veterinary professionals with a special interest in emergency and critical care (ECC) The aim of EVECCS is to promote the study, development, and practice of veterinary emergency medicine and critical patient care in Europe.

EVECCS recognised that the formation of a Speciality College was important to achive its goals and in 2009 established an ad hoc College Organising Committee (COC). The COC was tasked with working towards the foundation of a Speciality College under EBVS approval establishing ECC as a mature veterinary specialty in Europe.
